Almost Opening Day! Introducing our Farmers for Saturday!

On this rainy spring day, we wanted to throw a little cheer your way, and remind you that in ONLY 2 Days we’ll be OPENING!

Checkout some of our fantastic Opening Day Farmers:

The Pumpkin Farm-Located in Medway- “The Pumpkin Farm is a small vegetable farm owned and operated by Jason & Nicole Lobisser. We operate using sustainable farming practices and use no synthetic fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide or fungicide. Our farm is about 6 acres and is located off of Norfolk Road in Mills. There is a small roadside stand at our home on Milford Street in Medway. We grow an unusual variety of vegetables from Artichokes to Zucchini focusing mainly on offering vegetables that are different from the norm, whether that be yellow watermelon, purple peppers or white radishes. If we find an extraordinary vegetable we want to grow it.”

Medway Community Farm-Located in Medway- “The farm is an active producer of fresh, organically-grown food for Medway and the surrounding area. The farm is a non-profit organization, representative of and supported by the community it serves and committed to giving back. The farm is a dedicated provider of high-quality hands-on educational programs to both children and adults. By using sustainable, low-impact methods that were the inspiration for this project we are contributing to our local food supply and improving the global food system. We have chosen not to apply for organic certification this season, but will still use soil enhancing and resource conserving methods to grow our produce and flowers. We will never use chemical pesticides, herbicides or fungicides on our farm.

and our Newest Farmer:

Fairmount Fruit Farm-Located in Franklin- “A local family owned farm, farm-stand, apple orchard, greenhouses and hydroponic farm. U-pick apples and strawberries, fresh vegetables and other fruit, free range eggs and greenhouses full of beautiful flowers. We also grow a majority of our goods hydroponically and we provide people with an opportunity to own their own vertical growing system.

Coming in JULY: D’Allesandro Farm!

Veggies, Fruit, Food, and Poetry! All in one spot! Join us tomorrow, for a great day.

Dimes for Dinners Fundraiser

We all know and hold on to the value of a quarter, but dimes are the forgotten coin that we let fall under the seat of the car or sit in coin jar waiting to be used. We have a new opportunity for our community members to give meaning to their dimes and be a part of the CHP mission- it’s called Dimes for Dinners. The concept is simple really. Each individual or family collects their dimes to support our efforts to improve access to healthy foods through community engagement. The best part: the donation of each filled tube of dimes will provide the funds for CHP operations to grow and donate about one week’s worth of servings of vegetables for one person in need in our community- a pretty great impact for collecting those spare dimes from the couch cushions!

Through Dimes for Dinners, participants are taking action for a great cause in a fun and easy way. Anyone of any background or age can enjoy participating in Dimes for Dinners, and will experience the joy of making a difference in their community.

How much does each tube hold?

On average a full tube will hold about seven dollars in dimes. CHP donates about three servings of fresh veggies per dollar, meaning the average filled tube is equal to funding the donation of 21 servings of veggies.

Where does the money go?All funds collected through Dimes for Dinners go to support Community Harvest Project operations. Community Harvest Project (CHP), a 501(c)3 organization, is the only non-profit in the area dedicated to improving access to healthy foods through community engagement.

Through our volunteer farming programs, education initiatives, and community partnerships, we bring thousands of community members together each year to improve access to healthy foods for individuals and families in need across Worcester County. In fact, with the help of over 9,4000 volunteers, CHP donated over 324,200 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need throughout Worcester County in the 2013 growing season. Learn more at http://www.community-harvest.org.

The Milford Farmers Market will run a fundraiser for Dimes for Dinners during the entirety of the Market on July 19th, 2014!
